The desire was to produce a motorcycle that had a power to weight ratio as close to unity as possible, but to achieve this by reducing the weight, rather than increasing the power through use of capacity, turbo charging, or nitrous oxide injection. The outline specification of the switch:BLADE is as follows ... Specification A limited edition, extremely high performance motorcycle, based around a 1999 Honda CBR900RRX donor. Chassis A combination of precision machined aluminium alloy pieces and mandrel bent aluminium alloy extrusions welded together. Bodywork Pre-impregnated carbon fibre, fully autoclave cured from epoxy patterns and carbon fibre tooling . Power 134 horsepower (standard capacity, non turbo charged, non nitrous oxide injected, as measured at the wheel). Weight 138 kilograms (148 kilograms with fluids and minimal fuel, and original Honda road legal exhaust, as measured during Single Vehicle Approval braking performance test). The switch:BLADE is currently undergoing a further transformation. Because the final weight exceeded our expectations, we feel we can make further improvents to the appearance without compromising the essential nature of the bike.
