Frame and Swinging Arm
The frame and swinging arm will be machined from solid. Both will be produced from aluminium alloy, and will be engineered to ensure minimal weight with optimal stiffness and strength properties.
The use of billet components should also eliminate the requirement for the many different and unnecessary brackets that are found on conventional motorcycles. |
 |
Body panels
All body panels will be produced from pre-impregnated carbon fibre. This will include a self supporting seat unit (of a much lighter design than that seen on the switch:BLADE), the fuel tank (an actual tank, rather than just a carbon cover), and both front and rear mudguards. All fairing panels will also be in carbon fibre when designed and tooled later on in the project.
There are some different ideas being discussed at the moment for the headlight unit which may negate the use of carbon fibre, so updates will follow with regards to the headlight unit. |
 |
Precision Machined Components
The big news here is obviously the billet frame and swinging arm.
In addition, there will be triple clamps, footrest assemblies, and any other metallic components necessary machined from billet rather than cast. |
 |
Recognised Names
This is currently undecided. There will possibly be stainless steel brake lines, and possibly the instruments cluster, as the company has working relationships with various renowned companies in these fields. |
 |
Finishing Items
Nothing has been decided at this point, but it is likely that lights and mirrors will not be taken from the donor motorcycle. |
 |
Performance
The donor has more than enough power, especially when the weight target is taken into consideration, but as it will likely end up going through the Single Vehicle Approval process, the emissions requirements are less stringent. Whilst a performance exhaust and a revised breathing and engine management system are desirable, they add considerable cost onto the finished motorcycle. |
 |
Weight
The finished bike has a target power to weight ratio of one. I don't know yet if this will be power at the crank, power at the wheel, dry weight, wet weight, or any other combination of power and weight. |
 |
Cost
At BFO Motorcycles we are very conscious of the cost of our products. However, read through the specification list above and try pricing everything listed separately from companies that supply similar high quality items. Add in the cost of a brand new Suzuki B King donor, and hopefully this gives you some idea of what we are trying to achieve with this motorcycle.
Also, individual components, such as the frame will be available separately.
Our aim is that the finished motorcycle will be considerably cheaper than competitors of similar specification. |
 |
Availability
This motorcycle should be available through dealers. There are no plans currently in place, and this is something that will be approached once the first prototype motorcycle is available for presentation. |
